<<< From hard disk drive to SD card >>>

1. Is my computer fast/strong enough to handle the data?
Since the computer hardware is increasing month by month also the development programs need more and more memory capacity and cpu speed.
The MDBC need the entire file structure of a backup in the computer memory. Means a bigger backup, more than 300 songs need at leas a memory of 128 MB RAM and a CPU of 800MHz speed. Of course also a 300MHZ Pentium will do the job but need a lot more time for recalculation.
So we recommend a strong computer starting at 600MHz and at least 64MB RAM.

2.

What type of data do you have to convert?

Not only the time and the SD card size is relevant for the data conversion but also the type of source data.
Since the data from KN2000/3000 and 5000 aren't compressed they need much more time for conversion an transfer to the SD card. Also the recommended space on the SD card will be bigger.
With other words: 250 songs on a KN5000 HDD need about 5-6 times more SD space than 250 songs from a KN6000 HDD

3.

How big is the backup file?

First of all you need to know the size of the actual backup of your HDD files.
If you never made a backup we need to know the following information to calculate the estimate SD card size:
- How many songs do you have stored on the HDD?
- On the HD-AE5000 or HD-SX6 you will find the remaining HDD on the info page.
- What kind of files are saved (Custom files, sequencer/Midi files only)?

4. Why need a 40MB backup at least a 128MB SD card?
Since the KN7000 can replay audio data (converted wave/mp3 as *.sa1) the file system and CPU need bigger cluster's (smallest unit of data size).
Reason: Musical instruments don't have Pentium power, therefor bigger cluster size offer better speed for real-time play.
A disadvantage is: small files (< 16kB) waste memory space on the SD card. Since KN6000 has compressed song data, such type of files use more space compared to the computer system.
Finally, we recommend to have at least a 50MB free space for further files (audio or song)
